One of the pieces of advice that was given to me while pregnant was “the days are long but the years are short”. Well, I haven’t passed a year yet but if it’s anything like these first six months, truer words have never been spoken. I’ve been at this mom thing for 27 weeks/6 months already. Half a year. Everyone says it, but it really does go by so fast.
To help me remember our must-haves, and to hopefully help someone else, here are our favorites from the past three months.
Baby Must-Haves (3-6 Months) | Persnickety Plates

Some links below are affiliate links meaning if you buy from them, Amazon will throw me a few pennies and it doesn’t cost you anything.

1. Mickey Stick Rattle
During a trip to Babies ‘R Us with my mom & granny (Baby Girl’s granny & great granny), we handed her this rattle and she squealed, so of course we bought it. Every morning as I pack her into her car seat, I hand her Mickey and she loves him. The shape is perfect for her to hold and she likes sucking on his ears. Speaking of, Mickey is due for a washing.

2. Momma Goose Amber Teething Bracelet
I don’t know if this teething bracelet helps (it def doesn’t slow down drool for us) but I figure it can’t hurt to try. I keep it on her ankle, usually underneath her sock so she can’t grab at it. Her two front bottom teeth poked through last week (right at 6 months) and she’s handling it very well so far (knock on wood). I got ours from a local baby boutique.

3. aden + anais Muslin Sleeping Bags
Baby Girl graduated out of the swaddle (right after I wrote the 0-3 month favorites post, actually) and it was a really smooth transition. I thought she was going to have a hard time but it turns out she handles change much better than I do. I put her in the sleep sack as part of our bedtime routine (usually with a long sleeve sleeper) and keep the ceiling fan on the lowest setting. I’m also starting to put her in the sack for naps and I think it helps her sleep. Sleep sack = time for sleeps. If you’re lucky, you can find them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

4. Indestructible Books
These books are really great because (so far) they really are indestructible. She can fold them, squish them, gnaw on them, etc. and they bounce back. We have Baby Babble and Baby Faces.

5. Bibs!
Bibs should be #1 on our list. It baffles me when I see a baby without a bib because Baby Girl generally goes through three a day. She drools like no other. It started around 2 months but now that she actually has her two bottom teeth peeking through, it’s gone to a whole new level. I like these simple Imse Vimse organic cotton bibs (they don’t clash with her outfits. Seriously. I try to keep her coordinated.). I also like the Carter’s brand that snap since Velcro ones get stuck on things in the wash and I’m told most babies learn to snatch off the Velcro ones. She has a whole bin of bibs – all colors and varieties.

6. Oball Rattle
Try as she might, she can’t really get this into her mouth because of how it’s designed, but she can grip this rattle really well and she likes to fling it all around. She has a ton of rattles and teethers but I usually reach for this one.

7. Drying Mat
The counter where I used to take food pics and use my Kitchen Aid has been overrun with baby feeding paraphernalia. I used to just stick a dish towel underneath our drying rack, but my mom got me this drying mat and it looks much nicer and works much better. Along the same lines (& shown in the picture), I use this OXO drying rack, these Munchkin bottle & nipple brushes and I like to use Palmolive Free & Clear dish soap.

Honorable mention would be the Fisher Price Soothe & Glow Seahorse. We keep this next to her crib and if she wakes up in the middle of the night, usually I can just push this and the music helps her get back to sleep. It was in the news that it may have some defects but Fisher Price says it’s fine and it wasn’t recalled, so we still use it.

So, much of this update had to do with teething and I have a feeling the next one will have a lot to do with baby food since we started solids about 2 weeks ago. So far it’s been really fun and I’ve enjoyed making her food. Any suggestions for the coming months??

Here are our 0-3 month favorites, in case you missed it. Or my pregnancy favorites.
