There are just six simple ingredients, and what makes it stand out are the fresh herbs. It will quickly become one of your favorite homemade snacks.

Why you’ll love Garlic Herb Dip

Fresh Ingredients  – The fresh herbs add color and incredible aromas to the creamy dip. It’s served cold, so it’s got a cooling element which is great when you’ve got some spicy items on the menu.

Make-Ahead  – Make the dip up to two days ahead of time and then just stir it and serve it to your guests.

Easy –  You don’t have to do any cooking. Just mix everything and serve it!

Equipment you’ll need

  • Medium mixing bowl – I love this one with the grippy bottom.
  • Hand mixer – A hand mixer is important to get the dip smooth. Unless you want to give it some elbow grease with a whisk!
  • Chip & Dip serving set – I like that this serving set has two dip cups. One for garlic herb dip, one for salsa!

Ingredients

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to gather to make this recipe, why you need them, and possible substitutions. Scroll all the way down for the full recipe card with measurements.

  • Cream CheeseYou’ll use a full brick (8oz) of cream cheese as the base of this dip. I like to use the original, full-fat version, but I’m sure the lightened version would work as well. Just make sure it’s a brick, not a tub of spreadable stuff.
  • MilkYou need a bit of milk to thin the dip. I used 2%.
  • BasilFresh, finely chopped basil. Bail has a slight peppery flavor that turns slightly sweet and smells amazing.
  • ParsleyFresh, finely chopped parsley. It has a mildly bitter taste that brightens other flavors.
  • ChivesFresh, finely chopped chives. Chives are in the onion/garlic/scallions family with chives having the most delicate flavor.
  • GarlicFinely minced garlic. I keep garlic packed in olive oil on hand in the fridge because it’s easy, but fresh will work as well.

What to serve with Garlic Herb Dip

This thick and zesty dip is the perfect party appetizer. Just place it in a serving bowl and serve it with your favorite chips or some sliced raw vegetables. When you garnish it with fresh herbs, it will look as delicious as it tastes.

Some other party-ready appetizers that will taste great with the dip include air fryer Buffalo chicken wings and baked green bean fries. Both of them are crispy and have complementary flavors.

But also, what’s a party without homemade snacks, like crescent roll pizza roll ups and homemade Chex mix?!

Tips & Suggestions

  • Use fresh herbs, including fresh garlic. The powdered versions won’t have the same color or full flavor.
  • Let the cream cheese soften at room temperature before mixing it. Bring it out about 30 minutes ahead of time.
  • Instead of milk, you can use sour cream, or Greek yogurt.

No, I don’t recommend freezing the garlic herb dip. It will change the texture too much as it thaws.

FAQs

Can I Use Boursin instead of cream cheese?

Yes, you can use Boursin instead of cream cheese in this dip. It’s zesty and savory and has a very similar flavor profile and texture.

How do I make the dip thinner?

If you think the dip is too thick, add a bit more milk. You can also replace the milk with a combination of sour cream and mayonnaise.

Can I use this dip as a spread?

If you want to use this dip as an herb cream cheese spread for bagels (try my Greek yogurt bagels!) or toast, I suggest using less milk. This should help prevent it from being too thin, which can then be used to spread on anything!
