Add all ingredients to your slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or until the peas are tender.
16 ounces dried green split peas, 2 cups cooked ham, 1 large white onion, 1 cup carrots, 2 Tablespoons minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon dried sage, 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 bay leaf, 32 oz low sodium chicken broth, 2 cups water

Notes
If soup thickens past your liking, you can thin it with more water or additional chicken broth.
This soup freezes very well. Once cooled, portion into freezer containers and freeze. I like to reheat straight from frozen in my mini crockpot or in a saucepan on the stove.
Recipe can be made with or without ham.
