Yes, you can! Some recipes may call for browning the beef first, as getting that initial sear is the best way to increase the flavor and lock in moisture.
Can I use frozen beef in the crockpot?
I recommend thawing it in the fridge first before adding it to the slow cooker. The exception to this would be using frozen meatballs. Those can be added directly from frozen, as they are typically pre-cooked.
Should I slow cook on high or low heat?
That all depends on the recipe. Most have the option for choosing either one, as higher heat takes less time, and lower heat calls for longer cook time. However, there are some (like pot roast) where low and slow cooking is preferred.
Should the beef always be covered in liquid?
Not always. Depending on the recipe, you may just need a little broth or sauce. Too much liquid can lead to a watery dish, as a slow cooker traps moisture as it cooks.
Which Slow Cooker Should I use?
For the past few years, I’ve been using a Hamilton Beach Set & Forget It slow cooker and I love that once it’s done cooking for the designated time, it automatically switches itself to warm. That is handy. Read my full Hamilton Beach slow cooker review here.
