Freezer Meal Ideas for Expectant Moms

My “to do before baby comes” list is getting pretty long. I woke up yesterday with a start at the realization that we have 9 weeks left. Single digits. Holy cow, guys, I’m having a baby.

One of our biggest tasks weighing on us is the elliptical sitting in what is going to be the baby’s room. We need to take it out to the garage but there’s over a foot of snow covering the path from our house to the garage and it just…keeps…snowing. That’s holding up pretty much everything else.

Another thing on my to do list is to prep some freezer meals.

Have I mentioned I’ve never made a freezer meal? So, I asked some blog friends to help me gather their favorites for me to try. I imagine having some food ready to go in the freezer will come in handy those first few weeks (months?).

There are some great looking recipes here – everything from breakfast, to pasta, to cookies. Now I just need to find a day to make some of these. Wish me luck.

Update 4/27/17 – we’re expecting baby #2 in the next 4-5 weeks (!!!) so I decided to give this post an update and include some more freezer meal ideas…since I never got around to making any the first time eek

Oh my gosh, I know. THIS SNOW. It’s soul-crushing. I mean, just….enough. Freezer meals are my favorite “gift” to the expectant moms I know. I always make them at least three big containers of soup, as well as some individually-wrapped pieces of lasagna.

    • Melissa {Persnickety Plates} says

I think that’s an awesome gift. I should’ve been doing that for all my parent friends.

Just be careful with lentils and onions, if you are breast-feeding your baby. I forgot it (again! it’s our third baby), and we had a pretty awful night, because baby had stomach pains….

Good tip! I love lentils but have to be careful with them for myself sometimes – I didn’t even think about passing along the stomach pains. Thanks!

what a great idea!! these will be helpful loooong after people stop showing up with meals as an excuse to snag some baby time, ha! 😉

Thanks for the ideas. Per your request, here’s our favorite. I had just typed this up for a friend. Warning: If you take these to a pot luck, tuck the recipe in your purse; somebody will want it.
