Chocolate Covered Halloween Pretzels

I’ve always been a big fan of fun halloween treats (my halloween cream cheese swirl brownies are one of my most popular posts!) but I don’t like anything creepy or too spooky.

These halloween pretzel rods are so easy (& cheap!) to make that they are a great way to round out a dessert table full of baked goods that take more effort.

The salty pretzel with the sweet chocolate makes for the perfect combination. Plus, the colorful sprinkles make them fun to look at and delicious to eat.

Why you’ll love these white chocolate covered pretzels

Easy recipe – They’re so easy to make, and allergy friendly, so you they’re the perfect treat to serve at a class party or to pass out to trick-or-treaters.

Salty snacks – It’s nice to have some festive halloween treats that aren’t overly sweet to balance all the candy.

Fun for all ages – From little kids to adults, these are enjoyed by all and they’re easy enough that the whole family can help make them.

Customizable – If you don’t want to use white chocolate, you could use milk dark chocolate for variety and switch up the sprinkles.

Equipment you’ll need

  • Microwave Safe Bowl
  • Mason Jar – Any glass jar will actually work, just make sure it’s tall enough to dip the pretzels.
  • Parchment Paper or Wax Paper
  • Sprinkles – I love to pick up extra sprinkles at HomeGoods or TJ Maxx. They usually have a great selection of holiday sprinkles.

WHITE CANDY MELTS – I like to use Ghirardelli baking chips but white candy coating or melts will work as well.

How to make Halloween Pretzel Treats

  1. STEP ONE: First, melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Then, pour the melted chocolate into a tall mason jar.
  2. STEP TWO: Next, dip a pretzel rod into the chocolate, swirling it around so it’s evenly coated. Let any excess chocolate drip off and then lay each rod onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
  3. STEP THREE: Finally, after you’ve done a few and they’ve set for a minute or two, top with colorful sprinkles. Let the chocolate harden and then enjoy.

How to serve them

Either wrap the dipped pretzel rods in cellophane bags individually to pass out, or they look pretty set into a tall glass or glass jar. Fill the glass with halloween colored M&Ms to support them and it turns a festive treat into a centerpiece!

What to serve with them

Set up a spread of halloween recipes like spooky spaghetti and meatball eyeballs, “raw meat” rice krispies, brownie bottom halloween cupcakes, ghost oreo balls, and a halloween poke cake.

If you’re having an adult party, you can add some layered halloween jello shots to the mix, too!

Tips & Suggestions 🎃

You can wrap each decorated pretzel rod individually in a cellophane bag with ribbon.

If you want to color the melted candy melts, use food coloring. Try using green to make witch fingers with a slivered almond for the nail!

You can also buy green candy melts (& other colors) if you don’t want to color the chocolate bark yourself.

Don’t sprinkle the dipped rods immediately, the chocolate will be too slippery/melty and the sprinkles will slide right off. It is better to let them set for a minute or two to get tacky.

Add candy eyeballs to the top of the pretzels for a spooky treat 👀

How to store them

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container either at room temperature or in the fridge if you like them cold.

Can you freeze chocolate pretzel rods?

You can, but you need to make sure there isn’t any moisture in the bag. I recommend placing the decorated pretzels into a freezer bag, pressing out any air, and then placing that bag into another freezer bag before storing them in the freezer.

Halloween Pretzel Rods

Servings: 15 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Dipping & Set Time 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Super simple Halloween Pretzel Rods are always a hit. Salty pretzels dipped into sweet white chocolate and then topped with festive sprinkles. Perfect for a halloween party!

Ingredients

  • 11 oz white chocolate baking melts I prefer Ghirardelli
  • 15 pretzel rods
  • ½ cup purple sprinkles
  • ½ cup orange sprinkles
  • ½ cup green sprinkles

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Also, pour each color of sprinkles into small bowls so they're ready to use.
  • To a medium microwave-safe bowl, add the baking melts and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted chocolate into a mason jar.
  • Dip one pretzel rod at a time inside the mason jar, tilting and spinning the pretzel until approximately ⅔ of the pretzel is coated.
  • Let any excess melted chocolate drip off the pretzel and then lay onto the parchment paper.
  • After the pretzels have set for 1-2 minutes, add the sprinkles. [if you add the sprinkles immediately, they will slide off]
  • Repeat until out of pretzels.
  • Allow the decorated pretzel rods to set and dry before removing from the parchment paper.

Notes

  • You can use any white chocolate / baking chips. I use Ghirardelli White Baking Chips – they melt nicely.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
